Common Questions

How do I know if my child needs an assessment?

A number of benefits are available from obtaining a psychoeducational assessment for your child. Has your child's teacher commented about specific concerns in the classroom? If your child struggles with completing class assignments and/or homework, becomes anxious before tests, has difficulty writing for extended periods of time, or simply struggles in one particular subject, a psychoeducational assessment might prove useful as a GPS of sorts to help understand how your child learns.  Some of the benefits include:

  • Attaining a better understanding of your child or yourself as a learner
  • Developing skills for improving focus and attention
  • Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety regarding tests
  • Improving communications and listening skills
  • Changing old behavior patterns and developing new ones
  • Improving self-esteem and boosting self-confidence
  • Referrals to specialized professionals to assist you or your child

What is an IEE in the Public Schools?

Individualized Educational Evaluations (IEE) allow parents to obtain a "second opinion" for their child's evaluations that were conducted through the public school system.  Parents are entitled to request the school to pay for this second opinion when the parents disagree with the school's findings/assessment results.

How long does an assessment take to complete?
The assessment process is individualized to each client. and is dependent upon what instruments are used in the evaluation. Parents/Clients should expect a typical psychoeducational assessment to take approximately 6-8 hours of face-to-face work with the clinician. Final reports are reviewed approximately two weeks after the final session of the assessment.

Do you take insurance, and how does that work?
We do not accept insurance payments at this time. However, we will provide clients with the appropriate billing codes so that they can seek reimbursement independently themselves.

Can I request a copy of the assessment results be sent to other providers/schools?

Confidentiality is one of the most important ethical responsibilities to clients. If parents/clients wish to have an electronic version of the final report send to other providers, they simply need to sign a Release of Information giving Dr. Jensen permission to do so.
